It varies according to the time of year but we usually employ between 8 and 12 staff, most of whom work part time. We employ local people where possible.
As a big part of our ethos is to purchase locally, the staff are all given basic training when they start, and information on what we are serving daily. They are encouraged to taste things so that they can make recommendations to customers based on their own experiences. They are also encouraged to ask questions if they are not sure about where something comes from, what it contains (e.g. is this cake gluten free?) or how it tastes. They all deal with our suppliers on a daily basis; some of our staff are even related to our suppliers! E.g. Black Mountains Preserves source fruit and vegetables from the Grandfather of one of our student summer staff members. Another member of staff is sister to one of the butchers at W J George. We can be confident that they know where our produce originates from!
