Invitation to carers

Felin Talgarth Mill is to host free afternoon teas for Carers every month. Spokesperson and Trustee at the Mill, Sue Bidmead, told us:

‘A successful grant application to Carers Wales, ‘Cuppa for Carers’ scheme means that we have an extra opportunity to share this historic Mill and its beautiful surroundings with those who may not be able to get out and about as much as they would like to at the moment. We’ve already held some sessions and we understand that many Carers like to share an opportunity to meet up with those that they are caring for, so, we welcome both Carers and Cared For to these meetings. The scheme is designed to support all those who are unpaid Carers and as well as a cuppa and cake we also have activities to take part in, so far, our regular visitors have taken part in a free guided tour of the Mill, enjoyed baking free Talgarth Mill bread kits and transplanted tomato plants for the Talgarth ‘community containers’ scheme’.

‘We are keen to publicise these events to be able to attract more Carers to monthly meetings and hope to be able to provide further activities in the future. We want to make sure these meetings are just what Carers need, so a range of activities will be arranged in consultation with those who attend the group’.

If you are an unpaid Carer please come along and join us at the next meeting which will take place in The Granary at Felin Talgarth Mill at 2.30pm on Thurs 18th May. Please phone Sue Bidmead on 01497 847217 if you require any further information.

The Mill Race 2017

61 runners lined up to take part in the third Mill Race. After a gap last year, we welcomed previous participants from 2014 and 2015 as well as new faces, all keen to get out onto the Black Mountains and tackle the 10 mile course. Countdown to the start was at 10am and the first runner was back in a speedy 1.10.12 time. Everyone got back safely and there were lots of smiles as runners crossed the finish line and enjoyed tea, coffee, and cake at The Bakers’ Table – a well earned treat after a long run. Runners came from our local area and local running clubs but also further afield – Manchester, London and Potters Bar were leading the way for distance travelled until a runner living in Swansea but originally from Libya signed up on the day! Congratulations to everyone who completed the course and huge thanks to all the marshals, supporters at the registration/finish line, Bakers’ Table for the refreshments, and everyone who stood out in the square cheering on the runners as they came home.  Full results here.
