As a mill that uses water power, we welcome the rainy weather and it hasn’t deterred an active start to the year!
We kicked off the year with our drop-in workshop “Workshop Wednesday” on
January 3rd – making beautiful lanterns out of jam-jars and candles. The four Food Assemblies that we attend started up again after a short break over Christmas and we have been out and about making deliveries of flour and bread for collection in Peterchurch, Talybont, Abergavenny and Carmarthen. The first baking course of the year “Bread for Beginners” on January 20th at The Bakers’ Table was a great success with six people leaving the session with a range of fantastic bakes and new skills to try out at home. Four of the “bakers” also took part in our “Taste of Milling” experience and started the day learning how to mill – from engaging the wheel to opening the sluice gate, preparing the grain and milling some flour. We were delighted to welcome back old friends to our first Carers and Cared for social session (January 25th) and some new faces. Sessions run throughout the year (third Thursday).
Our enterprise thrives because of the many hours of voluntary time given across the different parts of the Mill - so we have been very glad to welcome new faces to the bagging and gardening teams and for support with our social media activity (we are “tweeting” again!). And if you are reading this then you’ll have seen our brand-new website, designed to highlight all the best things about a visit to Talgarth Mill and activities going on throughout the year!Back
