Five Great Taste Awards show that our talented team of millers have great skill and expertise in managing the milling process from setting up the wheel, managing water flow, adjusting the stones, selecting the grain and monitoring the flour produced.
We mill 4 days a week and take great pride in the care and attention paid to every step of the process. Always keen to bring new “millers” into the team, we’re delighted that long-term volunteer Sarah Andrews has taken the “plunge” and is now learning to mill – with the aim of adding Sundays to our milling rota. Sarah said: “Like all great experts our experienced millers make the job look easy – and can quite happily jump from chatting to visitors to changing waterflow to adding grain to adjusting the stones. It’s definitely something to learn slowly and build up an understanding of how each piece of the machinery works”.
The last lady miller at Talgarth Mill is recorded as Rebecca Lewis who took over the mill in 1901 from her husband at age 72! We’re aiming to be milling again on Sundays from the middle of February.Back
