Location: Talgarth Mill, with some flexibility to work from home.
Background to Talgarth Mill
Felin Talgarth Mill Ltd is a community based 'Company Limited by Guarantee' brought to life by the mill's renovation in 2010-11, when it featured on the BBC's 'Village SOS' programme. The renovation was funded by Lottery grants and the Mill has since received considerable grant support from the National Park's SDF fund and from Welsh Government schemes. The Mill produces flour for both wholesale and retail sale and welcomes thousands of visitors every year to hear and see its story. The Mill itself is staffed by volunteers and the Mill's cafe is run by Trigg’s at the Mill, while the bakery is run by Pobl.
The role
This part time role is an exciting opportunity to help the Mill realise its huge potential as a community hub and centre for sustainable food, education and the arts. The role has been largely funded by the National Lottery’s Community Fund.
As our community engagement coordinator, you’ll
share the Mill’s vision and values (sustainability, community, education), be self-motivated, enthusiastic, organised, creative thinking and have a talent for putting on events and bringing people together.

While there is some flexibility to work from home, the role will largely be based at Talgarth Mill, and you will be expected to work here for a proportion of your hours each week.
Key responsibilities
Work with the café (Trigg’s) and the mill’s directors to arrange regular events which engage a wide variety of community members and groups. These will include: pop-up food events, gigs, literary events, craft workshops, bread baking workshops, talks, art exhibitions, school visits, events for children and young adults, foraging walks and more.
Liaise and run events with various community groups such as Black Mountains College, Stump up for Trees, Hay, Brecon and Talgarth Refugee group, and others.
Coordinate with Black Mountains College students and staff to organise and manage activities in the mill buildings and garden space.
Helping to coordinate the mill’s team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles i.e mill guides, mill maintenance teams, gardeners.
Make an overall monthly report to the mill’s board of Directors.
Have an eye to innovation as to how the mill can vary and improve its offers.
Liaise with our volunteer Production Manager on flour production and sales. Work with them to increase flour sales.
Apply for grants and help raise funds.
Support the directors in keeping the mill project running smoothly and successfully. Your role will be split between aiding the management of the mill and the community engagement aspect.
Skills
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
A passion for community, environmental principles and bringing people together through a diverse range of events.
Strong project management skills, and able to work to deadlines.
An excellent communicator - both written and in person.
Enthusiastic, organised, creative thinking.
An ideas person, with an eye for innovation
Well-versed in using Microsoft Word, spreadsheets and Google Drive.
